5 Ways to Include your Pet on Your Wedding Day
If you’re anything like me, your pets are family and a huge part of your life. Below you’ll find ideas on how to include your fur babies on your big day.
Signature Cocktails
Come up with a unique mixed drink and name it after your pet. If you have multiple pets, you can have several signature drinks! There are artists on Etsy who will paint or draw illustrations of your fur babies for your Bar Menu. You can take this one step further by matching the flavors of the cocktail to the personality of your pet. Have a spicy chihuahua? Consider a drink with a Tajín rim. Have a sleepy siamese cat? Maybe a coffee liqueur cocktail. I can also imagine a pitbull-dedicated drink featuring Red Bull. There’s even a pre-existing cocktail called a Yellow Bird–perfect for those wanting to honor their bird friends.
2. Have a Flower Pup
Assign a friend or family member to walk your pup down the aisle at the point in the ceremony where a flower girl would usually go. You can give your pup a flower crown, or a flower collar I’ve even seen pictures of dogs who have been trained to hold a basket of flower petals in their mouths!
3. Walk Down the Aisle with your Dog
Who better to walk you down the aisle than your furry best friend? Ask your florist to create a flower collar or a floral and vine leash.
Note: It’s important to consider your pet’s temperament when making decisions on how to include them on your wedding day. I adore my pets but, unfortunately, none of them have the temperament to handle a wedding. Our chihuahua might have loved being there on our wedding day, but the logistics of where he would go during the reception and who would be responsible for him ended up being too complicated.
So, If your dog is calm and friendly, they might be a good aisle-walker. However, if your cat is shy, walking down the aisle probably isn’t a good option.
4. Include your pets on your cake
Ask your cake decorator to include a hidden tribute to your pet on your cake. This can be in the form of a paw print or even a fondant model of your pet. Alternatively, there are many artists on etsy who make cake toppers to look like your furry best friends.
5. Take Pictures with your Pets before leaving the House
If you are getting ready at your home, ask your photographer to get some photos of you with your pet. This is probably the best option for those of us who have cats. Unless, of course, you have an adventure cat!
